designed in a classic Tuscan style, with lots of stone and warm wood finishes. As you approach the tasting room across the large piazza in front (that’s a patio to us North Georgians) you will notice the stone construction of the building and heavy wooden front door. Step inside and you’ll find a warm welcome from Joe and Tina Smith, the owners and wine makers, and their staff.
On a recent sunny afternoon I had the pleasure of visiting Serenity Cellars’ tasting room and was amazed at how much it reminded me of the beautiful and charming tasting rooms that are found along the back roads of Sonoma County in Northern California. But this first class operation is not on the west coast and is conveniently located in our own Georgia Wine Country. Sitting on the piazza, where they have live music on Saturdays, I enjoyed a glass of wine looking out over the sprouting grape vines of the vineyard. It reminded me of all the great things North Georgia has to offer – a thriving wine industry with lots of great vineyards in the surrounding valleys, beautiful mountains and friendly Southern hospitality.
My favorite Serenity Cellars wines include are a great red blend done in the Super Tuscan style that is a perfect mix of Sangiovese, Merlot and Syrah, and is appropriately named Harmony. I also like an outstanding new white they are producing called Bianco Bello, literally “beautiful white” in Italian. It is a blend of Pinot Grigio, Vidal Blanc and Traminette, which is light and has wonderful fruit flavors on the palate. But my favorite Serenity wine is their Traminette, a crisp white wine with citrus flavors that goes perfect with a spicy Thai dish.
