This charming wooden cottage, located on Hwy 255 in Sautee Nacoochee just minutes away from Lucille’s Mountain Top Inn & Spa, offers culinary, bath and body products, dried lavender bundles and aromatherapy products, along with locally made crafts and folk art items.
When you walk into the cottage painted a subtle lavender color and trimmed in white the soft scent of lavender permeates every nook and cranny of this lovely shop. Soothing is the right word to describe your shopping experience inside the Lavender Cottage and Garden. All products are handmade locally from dried and culinary grade lavender flown in from Sequim, Washington, the lavender capital of America. Once the lavender arrives, shop owners Judy and Glen Walker set about bottling soaps, lotions, shampoos and salves starting with organic and vegan based products, then infusing each personal product with high grade essential lavender oils. Their products come with the guarantee that there are no sulfates or paraben additives in any of their bath and body line. One of the shop’s newest soap products is handmade in New York and has found its way to Sautee. A wonderful way to use lavender in the bath, the maker combines a bar of fragrant lavender soap with high quality Merino wool so that it doubles as an exfoliant wash cloth.
In the kitchen, lavender can add a unique bouquet of flavor to baked goods, teas, and also grilled meats using Herb de Provence meat rubs and marinades. Lucille’s recently hosted a wedding where the lavender flavored wedding cake that was delicious. With recipes found in the shop, along with packages of sweet Royal Velvet English culinary lavender, the Walkers are happy to offer ways to bring a new zest to your everyday dishes with the savory addition of organic lavender products. You’ll also find many locally prepared foods that are brimming with the sweet scent and taste of lavender. The fragrant flower is added to salad dressings, local Georgia peach jams and jellies and infused in locally produced honey. Lavender tea pairs well with fresh lavender sugar cookies and, yes, chocolate lovers, there’s even lavender laced chocolates to tempt your palates.
Lavender is one of the oldest and most relaxing herbs used for centuries as aromatherapy. The Lavender Cottage and Garden’s specialty is a full line of aromatherapy products for personal use and for the home. Lavender oil infusion sets, soy candles, atomizers, salves, and even lavender laundry soap and dryer bags are available to help you round out the need for lavender in your life.
In addition to the Walker’s signature lavender product lines, you will also find beautiful handmade jewelry, holiday ornaments and other specialty items made by local artisans throughout the shop. A new addition to the Lavender Cottage and Garden is The Shed, a place where vintage furniture, metal and sculpted concrete yard art and folk art blend to add to your unique shopping experience.
