There’s nothing quite like floating down the Chatahoochee River on a beautiful summer day: the cool water, gorgeous scenery and uber-relaxed feeling of being away from it all. Sound enticing? We thought so.
Just up the road from Lucille’s, in Helen, you’ll find two places that can get you set up for a float on the river. Cool River Tubing is the biggest operation, offering trips of different lengths, from 1to 2 ½ hours. Each trip includes your tube, shuttle, life-jacket, tie straps—everything you need for a safe journey. You can purchase tickets and get outfitted at one of three locations. All rides end at the Chattahoochee Outpost where a staff person will help you exit the river.
If you want to add on more fun, opt to do the waterslide, located about halfway down the tube ride in a beautiful wooded area. You can slide to your heart’s delight, then continue tubing down the river.

Helen Tubing is a family-run company known for “Tubin’ the Hooch” in hot pink tubes. Visitors can choose from a short 1-hour float to the longer float which lasts 2-3 hours. The company also offers free shuttle service to the put-in just north of town and from the exit, located near Helen Tubing’s Waterpark. The park, which opens May 28 for this 2016 season, is a big draw, and this year sports a new 25-foot rock wall.
