With more than 200 medals in major United States wine competitions under its wine-making belt, Wolf Mountain Vineyards & Winery has made a name for itself, and not only here in Georgia. But it also has an award-winning setting, and that combo of great wine and dynamite scenery is more than enough reason to plan a visit.
Wolf Mountain Vineyards & Winery was established in 1999, and follows the French methods of winemaking, blending European varietals to achieve the complex and intense style it prefers in wines. Its vineyards, which sit at an 1800-foot elevation in the Dahlonega Plateau, are planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Mourvedre, Malbec, Tannat, and Touriga National grapes that are blended to create the Reserve Estate Red Wines. Grapes for the company’s Chardonnay, Viognier, and Merlot wines are grown at other local vineyards.
The winery produces 5,000 cases of wines per year, including five sparking wines, three dry white wines, six dry rosé and red wines, and two semi-sweet and port wines. Over the years, many have been honored with awards. In 2016 at the prestigious San Francisco International Wine Competition, Wolf Mountain brought home four Double Gold awards for Claret, Instinct, Boegner Family Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, Private Reserve Chardonnay; and a gold for the Vintners Reserve Brut Rosé.
Visitors may enjoy wine tastings and tours (see details below). There is also a Vineyard Café that serves lunch, Sunday brunch, and special Gourmet Dinners throughout the year.
