Our Inn guests often rave about the coffee we serve. It’s from a local company—based in Helen, Georgia—called JumpinGoat Coffee Roasters. We love using them not just because their coffee is so delicious, but because the company is so conscientious in the standards they keep.
The name of the company comes from an Ethiopian legend of a goat herder named Kaldi, who noticed his goats jumping around and filled with energy after eating the ‘cherries” from a special tree. He tried eating them and found he had more energy too, so he brought the berries to his local monastery. Disapproving, the monks threw them into the fire to get rid of them. But the aroma of roasting beans soon led them to retrieve the beans from the fire, grind them and mix with water. Ta-da! Coffee was born.
What makes JumpinGoat so special is both the process they use and the sustainable approach they support. Instead of using machines, JumpinGoat hand-roasts their beans (100% Arabica, even in the blended varieties) which gives the roast master more control over the heat, time and temperature. They recycle the bean chaff and broken beans, and the burlap bags are recycled as weed barriers. As an Inn that also supports sustainability, we appreciate these practices.
Stop by the Helen shop and you can buy a bag of fresh-roasted coffee to take home. They’ll be happy to grind it to your specifications.

Great coffee is just one of the perks (pun intended!) of staying here at Lucille’s. Grab a cup in the morning and relax on the deck as the sun rises over the mountains. It’s hard to imagine a better way to start the day!
