Every once in a while a restaurant comes along that may not be super close to the Lucille’s Mountaintop Inn & Spa, but is well worth the drive. The Farmhouse at Persimmon Creek in Clayton, Georgia, is just such a place.
Clayton is about a 45-minute drive from Lucille’s and every mile of it is gorgeous, so you’ll be rewarded even before you arrive at your destination! The restaurant setting is a quaint cottage deep in the woods, the kind of intimate place you’d like to linger in, and that is just what you should do over dinner.
Don’t be fooled by its name, The Farmhouse is anything but down-home cooking. It’s a top-notch farm-to-table restaurant that turns local fresh ingredients into sublime dishes (A recent lamb entrée was unbelievably delicious.) The small but thoughtful menu, which changes with the season and available ingredients, offers several starters, including soup, salads, and a charcuterie plate. Entrees include a range of protein, such as pan-roasted trout with toasted almonds and autumn vegetables or pork loin with persimmon. Desserts are as cozy as the setting—apple streusel with vanilla bean ice cream, for example.
While The Farmhouse doesn’t have a bar, it does have a nice wine and beer selection and allows diners to feel comfortable lingering over a drink. Reservations are required (we can help you with those)—and the restaurant usually books up a few weeks out.
