Make history by joining the Smithgall Woods State Park friends group as they host “Cabin Fever: Bluegrass & BBQ Festival” along Duke’s creek. On October 5, 2019, from 10am to 4pm, the park will feature live bluegrass bands, local artisans and their wares, food vendors, and more!
The goal of this event is to raise money for the state park to be able to dismantle and relocate a chestnut log cabin to their property. This cabin will be located near the Visitor’s Center and will be used for educational programming. Admission is $10 per vehicle, and additional donations are appreciated though not required.
This will also be a great day to explore some of the hiking opportunities offered at Smithgall Woods State Park. Autumn colors will be starting to appear across the landscape, temperatures will be cooler, and wildlife will be prepping for the winter.
To truly immerse yourself in the history of the property, we recommend the Martin’s Mine Trail. This path starts along a wooden bridge across Duke’s Creek and loops around to showcase a vertical shaft that was used during Georgia’s gold mining era. Another fun hike is the Laurel Ridge Trail, which loops along Laurel Ridge and showcases a splendid view of nearby Yonah Mountain.
