Is there anything better than local honey? How about fermented local honey? Now we’re talking, right? If you’re visiting the north Georgia mountains, you’ve got to stop at Etowah Meadery. Located in Dahlonega, this new tasting room is full of delightful meads to suit any palate.
Many folks are not familiar with the process involved in making mead. At its basic level, mead is simply honey, water, and yeast that is combined and fermented. But that simple beginning is the jumping point for all kind of flavors. Fruits, spices, and grains can all be added to varying degrees to create a custom flavor that runs the gamut. Just ask master mead maker Blair Housley, whose flavor creativity is matched only by his naming creativity. Try “FIGetaboudit” (made with figs) or “Up Da Blue Ridge Mtn” (a collaboration with Piedmont Brewery & Kitchen). The locally-inspired flavors will have you coming back for more in no time. Keep an eye on the current releases and let the folks at Etowah Meadery help you find just the right flavor to suit whatever mood you are in.
